3 Swiss prisoners fighting for the Islamic State are currently held in Northern Syria, where they are subjected to extreme settlements in Kurdish jails and are appealing for repatriation from the Swiss government.
All the jihadists are part of the French-speaking region of Switzerland. SRFexternal link, a Swiss public television, was interviewed by the three men. According to them, in the Kurdish prisons they are mistreated, even tortured.
We cited examples of poor sanitation, food and water shortages, and virtually no health care. We added how mentally exhausted and suffered as a result of lack of sleep.
With no contact outside the prison with the outside, prisoners are allowed to send mails through the Red Cross to their families. The three men lived in the ex-Caliphate with their relatives. Together with their children, their mothers, including one Swiss woman, are in camps. The men wanted to be repatriated to Switzerland and settled in Swiss jails to spend the remaining jail time.
Confirming precisely what the three jihadists were doing in Iraq and Syria is not straightforward. Two of the three inmates were taken in the Islamic State’s final strongholds. Only the most loyal followers until the very end gave resistance.
The Kurdish facility’s security forces continue to insist on the adequate treatment of the inmates.
The Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs reassured when speaking to SRF that it is trying its best to get the Swiss children back to Switzerland in northern Syrian camps.
The repatriation has so far failed to see any success. That’s because the jihad moms aren’t in favour of letting their kids go alone.
