Switzerland reports that $1.3 million (CH1.26 million), of funds used for the procurement of drugs, has been repatriated of seized assets to Turkmenistan.
According to a statement by the Foreign Minister, the move is in keeping with its policy of repatriating illegally acquired wealth confiscated in Switzerland.
An agreement made on Wednesday specifies that funds will be used to buy anti-tuberculosis medications for research programmes run by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
“In cooperating on this project Turkmenistan as well as the UNDP aim to deliver effective, high-quality healthcare, ensuring that the poorest sections of Turkmen society have access to the health services they need,” the ministry stated in the conference.
The report also notes that the compensation would benefit the people of central Asia as well as draws on the values of transparency and accountability. The restitution also contributes significantly to the adoption of the sustainable development strategies of the United Nations for their 2030 agenda.
